six-word story winner

Friday, January 16th, 2009

thanks to everyone who submitted an entry in the six-word story contest. 4 entries…not too bad for a first time contest on a very sporadically updated blog. the only downside i’ve found to sponsoring a contest is having to judge the entries…but judge them i must, so judge them i have.

while at first glance i thought his late entry was disqualified due to being submitted after the deadline, i realized that dean diomedes’ entry was actually submitted yesterday, just from pacific coast time, and since i did not specify a time-zone, i was forced to allow it. and so, congratulations, dean! i’ll be in touch about redeeming your workshop download.

while i enjoyed all the entries, dean’s reminded me of a treasured cliché truism when it comes to ministry - “god does not call the equipped, but rather, he equips those he calls.” i don’t know about you, but this has certainly rung true in my ministry journey. while i am a vigorous advocate for formation, training and ongoing professional development, there are just some parts of this gig for which no amount of schooling could possibly prepare you.

thanks again to everybody that entered, and stay tuned for the next contest.

six word stories…youth ministry style

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Thanks to the Presurfer I have recently been re-introduced to Six Word Stories. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them. So, I thought it would be fun to start off the New Year with a youth ministry themed six word story contest.

Rules:
- post your six word story in the comments section of this post by January 15, 2009
- winner will be announced January 16, 2009
- winning entry will recieve a free nccym workshop audio download of their choosing from mycatholicvoice
- winner will be chosen at my sole and arbitrary discretion. whining or kibizting will get you no where

In order to get the creative juices flowing, here’s my contribution:

liability waivers - so that’s why. ouch.
